Your Guide to 'The Best Restaurants in Chelsea'

Porters

John Lekic's varied experience as a restaurateur brings Porters its diversity and finess. After opening IL Valentino in 1997 with Bruna Allessandria (formerly of Le Madri), John made his way to Las Vegas, where he teamed with world-renowned French Chef Ebhard Muller in opening Lutece at the Venetian Hotel in 1999. That same year in Vegas, Lekic worked with casino mogul Kirk Kerkorian to open the Mansion at MGM which showcases 29 Villas (some as large as 12,000 sq. ft.) available by invitation only. Here John presented his guests with extremes of extravagance; imagine four exceptional chefs and an entire staff striving only to impress a few select guests. No expense was spared for this truly world-class cuisine.

In 2000, Lekic returned to New York and started his most recent project. Porters is like a luxury cruise ship in the middle of hip energetic Chelsea. The decor at Porters offers a duo level space, appointed with a long sleek bar, sumptuous banquettes, luxurious dining garden, and a V.I.P lounge with a D.J. booth and its own private bar. Enjoy the stylish indoor ambiance, or chose to dine in the romantic candle-lit garden by the stone fountain waterfall; each corner of Porters reflects Lekics keen sense of elegant comfort. John's passion for art is reflected in his support of local artists. Porters exhibits the artwork of many renowned painters some of who live and work in the historic Chelsea Hotel.

El Quijote

El Quijote appears untouched by time. While seafood remains the most popular choice on the massive menu, they know their steak here, too. Try the tapa of filet mignon tips, sizzling in a frying pan, or the special appetizer combo for two. Lobster in green sauce, like everything else, is gigante. (Be sure to spoon the extra-garlicky salsa over everything in sight.) Paella, available four different ways, is also a good choice for the table. If, by some miracle, you’re able to squeeze anything else into your stomach at meal’s end, the flan is fantástico.

Located next to the Chelsea Hotel, El Quijote offers exquisite Cuisine from the best of Spain since 1930. Located in the Chelsea district of New York, it offers the most authentic Spanish cuisine you'll find in New York city, at very reasonable prices.

Freddie at El QuijoteTraditional menu favorites include mejillones, paella, chulleta and gambas. Add to the mix the restaurant's authentic Spanish décor, Cervantes mural and well-dressed waitstaff, and it's easy to see why this is one of Chelsea's most carefully guarded secrets.
